The coin is about the size of a US Half Dollar and is a very interesting Commemorative coin, that comes with a bit of mystery and historical debate.

At face value this is a U.S. Frigate Constellation Commemorative Coin, which was the First Ship of the U.S. Navy. The metal used to strike this coin is from parts of the ship that are well over 150+ years old. These coins were struck to raise money for the restoration of the ship that currently resides in the Harbor of Baltimore, which has the same name as the first ship in US Navy and is historical as well since it was the last ship in the US Navy that was powered by sail.

According to some in 1955 the city of Baltimore started promoting the second ship named Constellation as a rebuild of the original 1797 frigate. The city issued medals and sold them for $1 each to raise money to restore the ship and turn it into a museum. On the reverse of the Constellation medal it states “that was struck from parts of the first ship of the US Navy”.

The Baltimore City promotion caught the attention of historians and started a heated debate. In 1999 the controversy was pretty much put to rest when evidence uncovered during the restoration proved it was the ship launched in 1854 (not 1797). What the city of Baltimore has in their harbor was the 150+ year old sloop-of-war that was a completely new design and built new from the keel up.

Rodriguez…his life story is as amazing and inspirational as his music.

The Mexican-American folk musician’s music often pertains to the political cruelties lavished on the poor.

In the the late 1960′s under the name Rod Riguez he released a single “I’ll Slip Away”, in the early 1970s he switched record labels and recorded two albums Cold Fact (1970) & Coming from Reality (1971). Due to low sales he was dropped from the label and so he gave up his career as a musician.

However, by the mid 1970′s unknown to him his music had become extremely popular in South Africa where it had gone platinum (sold over a million copies) and from there had been distributed and gained airplay in Australia, New Zealand and Zimbabwe as well.

Outside the US there were many rumors of his death.

In 1979 he toured Australia and released the Australian-only album Alive.

After the Australian tour he returned to Detroit and worked as a demolition man and picked up a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Wayne State University’s Monteith College (1981).

In 1991 his two albums were released on CD in South Africa for the first time, he ended up going there and playing a half dozen concerts for thousands of fans in 1998.

Rodriguez is now touring in various countries.  Also noteworthy is that at one time he tried to run for local political office in Detroit, and they misspelled his name on the ballot!

It’s hard to classy Amanda Kay in a particular musical niche as she easily crosses several contemporary music boundaries.

Pamela B. Fandrich was born and raised on a small country farm outside the town of Beulah, in western North Dakota. Her love of the outdoors was inspired by her surroundings: Lake Sakakawea, the Badlands, and wildlife. Her mother instilled a love of handicrafts and painting, and also strongly encouraged Pam in her early years to paint and draw. This influence of her parents and friends joined her fascination for nature and she’s been painting and drawing ever since.

Pam moved to the Phoenix Arizona area in 1986, and since that time has worked in cosmetology, and investment services. In 1988 she began flying for an international airline while taking classes in computer information systems and web design at Scottsdale Community College.  Pam currently holds an Arizona real estate license and works part time as an independent consultant as a computer assisted surgery specialist.

Her airline career not only allows her time to paint, but also the opportunity to see, experience, and study many different cultures.  Many of her works are inspired by her international travel abroad in places such as Greece, France and Italy.

In 2001 Pam started her own business painting on canvas, murals and web site development. She also works for six model home companies in the Phoenix and California area, creating murals for model homes and builders.

She is a member of the Scottsdale Art League and Arizona Art Alliance and often participates in regional shows and events.

Recently at the annual Desert Botanical Garden Show and Paintout Pam won 1st and 2nd place awards for “Artist of the Month”.

Pam’s favorite subjects to paint are: animals, flowers, portraits, seascapes and landscapes. Oil and acrylic paint are her mediums of choice.  Typically she prefers to put three to seven coats of paint on her canvas (using a technique many of the old masters used), and thus has quite a few projects working at one time. She is available for commission pieces.
